We use our extensive knowledge of database technology as the foundation skill for the creation of eCommerce solutions. We rarely use packaged eCommerce products and have opted instead for the flexibility that bespoke, database enabled design offers.

Many of the techniques referenced elsewhere on this site are just as important for the creation of a successful eCommerce site (e.g. site structure, design and branding; Content Management; Online marketing). There are a few specific guidelines we use :

Broadly we implement two types of eCommerce solution :

1. Enquiry based

For many organisations, selling over the net simply isn't practical.

You may be a property management company or you may manufacture bespoke industrial plant.

In short the sale of your products is most likely to be conducted through direct face-to-face selling. Using database enabled websites allows you to easily display your catalogue of products as a key element of the sales process.

2. Order based

Other organisations have a product set and a target market which means full eCommerce is possible, with the customer being taken through the full search, selection, order and payment process.
